Consider This!

I write about topics that affect and concern many people. Ideas and thoughts come from family, friends, co-workers, and myself. My intentions are to express feeling and value to each blog, and through words provide imagery to increase awareness of how others deal with different problems and challenges that we face living in America.

The Point of No Return.

There comes a point in our lives when we experience situations where we have invested tremendous amounts of energy, money, effort, or time but only to find ourselves fighting a losing battle. Even in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />U.S. government we find patterns of huge investments only to later realize all was in vein. At what point does a person or group decide when to throw in the towel. I must first state and clarify that I am not referring to just giving up or quitting when such situations arise, but rather deciding that stopping further loss into something that will never yield positive results. One idea for knowing when to pull-out would probably consist of seeking an expert, or experts who are fully knowing and knowledgeable about the problem in question. I would have to say that that would seem like a reasonable step, but have we as American citizens not been fooled before by trusting only experts?
Experts such as Bernie Madoff in the stock market, and experts who provided data for weapons of mass destruction, before the invasion of Iraq. Even an expert can be wrong, or by human nature misled by his or her own ambition. Should we depend on so called Gut-Instinct to guide us and keep us stepping forward? I personally am not gifted with a completely accurate Gut-O-Meter. What about using one’s faith to provide comfort and certainty? How strong is your faith, and is your decision making process directly affected by it? Friends and family also often play some part in decisions we make, and some extremely important, such as in marriage, or what job we have.
With so many resources available in our great country, which ones do we use and which ones should we use for circumstances that seem like there is no end. Take for example AIG or Merrill Lynch. Billions of tax payer’s dollars were spent to try and salvage these 2 companies. But at what point was it decided to stop throwing money away and try to dismantle these cash cows? Is it in our nature to want to fix something that maybe deep down inside we know could never be fixed. I believe honestly that failure is defined as not even trying, but ignorance is the refusal to acknowledge when to stop. If people where to accept the fact that they tried and did not succeed, and redirected their energy into something else possibly salvageable, wouldn’t that be better than continuing to ignore the facts, and wasting more time and effort?
American’s like to take pride in the fact that we created Era’s like the Industrial Age, modernized many technologies, and live our lives freely, and with the pursuit of happiness. Are we also willing to take responsibilities for making bad decisions at times, and try to fix the mistakes we make along the way, in our quest to be the best country to live in?
