 Consider This!

Author: gbenton Created: 7/4/2009 10:20 PM
I write about topics that affect and concern many people. Ideas and thoughts come from family, friends, co-workers, and myself. My intentions are to express feeling and value to each blog, and through words provide imagery to increase awareness of how others deal with different problems and challenges that we face living in America.

A Day to Remember
By gbenton on 9/11/2010 10:41 AM
I remember this day, where I was and what I was doing. The television was like a black hole that sucked me in and would not let go, and like I nightmare that I could not wake up from. My memory will forever be etched with the attack on our beloved country. Hate and revenge filled my mind, and I was ready to go serve our country if that what things were to come. I think that feelings of disgust and loathing can be natural when you see any atrocity, especially one that you can not stop.

We all Deserve an Amazing Weekend.
By gbenton on 9/7/2010 10:56 PM
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. It was an exceptionally nice weather for this time of year. For the first time in a long time I actually spent each day doing something with my family. We did not spend very much money nor drove very far. I almost could not believe that we had so much fun without having to spend a fortune. To be totally honest it kind of reminded me of times when I was growing up and when I did things as a kid. We were not by any means well to do, but some how we managed to have our share of fun filled days.
We decided to go walking up a mountain at a local park. We went to

A young adult perspective!
By gbenton on 8/31/2010 10:09 PM
I sometimes wonder what goes through the minds of young adults. What do they think about, or what worries they have as they are growing up. My oldest daughter was assigned a writing assignment for homework, which was to hopefully make the reader think about the importance of water. The following story is all her own. After reading it, I know I started thinking a little differently. Feel free to comment on the story. It would be great to let her know that other people think and care too.

Tolerance in America
By gbenton on 8/15/2010 6:25 AM
How tolerant are most American’s? When you stub your toe, do you say a nasty little four letter word under your breath? How about when you get in a fender bender while you’re on your way to work, and already running late? How many people are able to politely listen to a telemarketer and tell them no thank you but I’m not interested? Does tolerance come in different forms or have different levels that are all dependent on what the situation may be? What makes some people more tolerant than others and why do we act differently to the same situation?
I can remember ever since I was growing up what my parents have been tolerant of. Boundaries had been established early and the responses to situations never changed. I bet a guideline could have been put in pri ...

Say Thank You This Memorial Day!
By gbenton on 5/30/2010 9:44 PM
Remember Memorial Day. Many of us enjoy our long weekend. It is important that we spend time with our families and friends. It is also important that we have a mid-year break to relieve some of the day to day stresses of life. Americans like the rest of the world are trying to maneuver through the obstacles with the economy and all the while keep the threads of our families and relationships from unwinding. I hope you have the day off, and I hope it is enjoyable and restful.
But I do have one request. I ask that you remember the history behind Memorial Day. I hope you appreciate the Service men and women that have served our country faithfully and those that gave their lives so that you can have your freedoms and dreams.

Get Ready Middle Class America!
By gbenton on 5/3/2010 9:59 PM
I have looked real hard at the amount of money that is being spent to plug the holes in the American economy, and keep wondering who is going to pay for it all. Sounds almost like I am chastising you as the reader, but really….. have you thought about it. I won’t insult you. I know you have. Maybe you have not really worried too much, or maybe you are a skilled numbers person, but it is an issue or at least it will be soon.  The U.S. workforce appears to be chugging along again, a few hills here and there, but never-the-less we are moving again. On the opposite side of the ...

We are all one part of a whole Nation
By gbenton on 4/25/2010 12:52 PM
Keep your head up. Summer is coming. Turn off the news. Hug your significant one, hug your kids. Smile. Listen to your favorite music. Tell someone thank you when they go out of their way to do something good. Pray. Pray again and give thanks for what you have. Many people have been bumping and grinding at the stone for a while now. I am officially calling for a break. No one else seems to want to. I think its time for one. Even machines get a downtime for servicing. I usually do not try to quote information without researching the facts, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that American’s probably work some of the most hours in the work week when compared to the rest of the world. Why? Do we really have more? What have we achieved? Current economic vitals?

What do we do when doctors say no more?
By gbenton on 3/16/2010 4:45 PM
Recently I was at my doctor’s office and noticed signs posted saying that the doctors group is no longer accepting Medicare and Medicaid patients. I just had to ask why, so I went to the receptionist and inquired. I was told that both the Federal Government and some State governments were cutting back payments to the doctor’s for services performed. And, in fact, sometimes the payments were leaving doctors with a negative balance. I must have had my face all screwed up and contorted, because she asked if I needed any water after I digested what she had just told me.
This whole drawn out Healthcare drama is like treasure hunting blindfolded. A lot of people forming this bill, including both Republicans and ...

Letter to the President
By gbenton on 2/23/2010 10:31 AM
The following email is a letter that I wrote to President Obama. I will explain in a later post the reasons why I wrote the letter. I encourage everybody to read the letter and consider what I am trying to tell the President.

Dear Mr. President. I am writing to you to offer encouragement and a suggestion. Like many Presidents before you, you are faced with ongoing and continuing events such as the economy, foreign relations, and national security. But, unlike many Presidents before you, you have the most potential to prove that "change", can happen and that it can be for the betterment of the American people. My suggestion is that you return to the place and moment when you were thinking of what needed to be done. I always believe that all Americans united will help make those changes possible. Big banking and big spending I do  believe is no ...
