I had a meeting this week with my manager to discuss what makes me tick. I asked him up front if he really wanted to know. And before telling him about me, I inquired as to what prompted such a question. My manager went on to explain that some days I seemed moody, while other days I was energetic and more involved with work. Fair enough explanation…so I began. I told him that all though I am equipped with an industrial tongue-brake, I will speak my mind when I feel something may be unfair or politically incorrect.
     Also, I told him that I like conversation that is engaging, and not driven by just one opinion. (that meaning, you speak then I speak, and we know where we stand on the subject) Money and a sense of accomplishment in my work is a definite wind in the old clock-spring, as well as, being provided the opportunities to prove my abilities. Maybe there is a fine line between having a challenging personality vs. being arrogant. But, I do feel that being confident can be a great thing, as long as it is kept in check. Have you, or do you ever hear that other countries think that American people are conceited and stubborn? Maybe you have even visited other countries where the lifestyle is more relaxed. Now that I think of it Cancun looks promising.
      I discussed with my manager that maybe the grand lifestyles that people want to live, and the nice things available and previously too easy to buy, can corrupt one’s outlook of themselves. But then again, is it wrong for people to want and have nice things? Has America as a nation, become so focused on our individuality that we only see things one-sided. Or do employers want workers who are easier to mold, and who will not challenge their managers. I need my job just like everyone else, but, I also want to be able to be myself…
